Den Nickolaus kennen die Finnen nicht, denn sie glauben an Joulupukki, den Weihnachtsmann. An unserem Nickolaustag, dem 6. Dezember begehen die Finnen ihren Unabhängigkeitstag. Joulupukki wohnt am Polarkreis bei Rovaniemi und geht erst an Weihnachten durch Finnland.
Weihnachten hat für Nordeuropäer eine große
Bedeutung. Nach dem langen, dunklen und oft sehr
feuchten Herbst kommt mit Weihnachten der
Wendepunkt des Jahres, wenn das Licht allmählich
wieder Oberhand über die Finsternis zu gewinnen
beginnt. Dann ist es Zeit zu feiern.
