On first pictures of 2.12.2006 is at the right contour the beginning from Bolterdalen, to see over it the lights of the Gruve7. The landscape of my longing.
The left picture is of 8:10 o'clock GMT, the middle of 15:10 o'clock GMT, and rights of 21:10 o'clock GMT. Despite
deepest polar night it is not dark. These pictures ready posed of: "Nordlysstasjonen Webcam" of UNIS, universität in Longyearbyen. The temperatures on this day varied between -16°C to -6°C.
Day 1
In Frankfurt we had already delay, a person was more in the plane than ticket available. in Oslo I had headache, there the coffee and the Snack not realy helped. The waiting period was shorter for it than meant. on top
Day 2
At the Monday morning I landed around 1:30 AM in Longyearbyen. The approach on LYR is spectacular. In a last long bend I see, with the best window place of this side (A1), among us Gruve 7 (a coal mine) and the position lamps in Advenetdalen. Under us the
house of which for the next days my homeland is. The snow comes crosswise and Longyearbyen is brightly illuminated. Finite am I again here.
Priitta fetched me again. As the case for the last journey also, my bagage was not on the belt. There is this service only here, the bag is brought one day later , and I do not have to strive myself.
With the breakfast I meet Claus Ole and Max. Well, this is my group. I learned Iisak to know also. A small satisfied boy.
Before we can start, is the most important to find still the correct clothes. L or XL, is 44 for the boots not nevertheless too largely? does the wind stopper fit? We feel in the thick equipment like “Michelin male”. Anton gives us a note with the names of the dogs.
Dogs to search and get leaves become us somewhat warm. Outi, the present trainee, was fortunately helpful to us in the search. I had each hill on the area to take around the dogs to get. My dogs today from the front: Jagor, Femund, Zodiak, Scott, Vesla, Ori, Sieva, Stark. When passing another dog team, a dog on itself made attentive. It was Klang, it ran last year in my team as teamdog. It has me been pleased that it me recognized again. Today the daily route goes through Bolterdalen. on top
Day 3
Today the glacier cave stands on the program. I have Outi as a passenger, he will lead us by the cave.
The travel on the dogsled is unusual with a passenger, and more difficulty if it goes downhill, and who must be braked the sled. With such
valuable freight I must be careful. Because of the high temperatures it is laborious for all, and partially also
weld-rubbing.
At dogs I have
today Jagor, Femund, Zodiak (I call him rubber boat), Scott, Vesla, Ori, Sieva, Balto, strong and Alta. A good team.
It is somewhat cloudy and only around -1°C cold like already yesterday, the daily route is shorter around a loop. At the mountain with the angular rock on it goes above west on the glacier. we receive a helmet and steel springs for the
boots and go into the top of the cave, last year saw I the lower,
now closed part. The close courses can be partially only passed creeping. The variety and beauty of the ice formations are indescribable. on top
Day 4
Wednesday, today is quiescent day for the dogs and we concerns the day leisurely. Outside it is cloudy. I am not really used to effort of the days,
and can use the quiescent day.
We would have wished ourselves for this day something sun, and can after Longyearbyen be brought. Svalbardmuseum and Shopping. The troubled bones are not ready for a course after Nybyen for the gallery. In the Svalbardmuseum
there are interesting information and exhibits over the past Svalbards. on the return trip we see a burning snowmobile in the valley. I hear the saying “… ...Advent, Advent, a Scooter burn” on top
Day 5
Thursday, beginning of the three days route with two overnight accomodation in the tent. It is not as it to be as cold should. With -4,5°C we pack the sleds and harness the dogs, a sweat driving affair. Jagor, Femund, Vesla, Zodiak, Scott, Ori, Siewa and Balto belong today to my sled team. We come today more remote into the mountains. I already know this area from last year, but the mountains and the clouds
merge in different weather into again and again new pictures.
This night I sleep with Claus and Ole in four the men tent. We did not heat it, in order not to have the humidity in the tent. Together with Max we are a good group. on top
Day 6
Unfortunately the weather did not improve yet. It is coldly, sure we is in the tent. For breakfast there is a warm soup for those, which like it.
Jagor does not go through in the harnessing, it thinks not to it for rising “goes also in lying, and if not, he is to raise me nevertheless” he is even the cool ones.
As we drive off in the morning are windless and with scarcely -6°C not very cold. Missing cold weather is arduous for dogs. On the last ice passage over a lake the dogs run by the water. We build the Camp in nearly the same place as in the last year. The area comes me however changed forwards. The snow height varies here from nearly one meter to few centimeters. on top
Day 7
The morning bring better, good weather for us and a beautiful sunny day will become. The long ascent recompences us with a terrific prospect back, direction the south, over the snow-covered mountains
and valleys. In this direction we saw the lighting of the pit Svea in the sky the previous evening. 550 meters difference in height
we already mastered. Above on the pass we enjoy the view in its full extent and only few hundred meters see we in driving direction in far distance the Adventtal further. A steep run by deep
snow lies before us. Each ski driver would be green with envy.
Down in the valley it is ending with the downhill run, with the dogs and the sled goes past it over stones and ice in fissured
landscape. The time for beautiful pictures came and the mountains radiates in the sun, when we bring in in the Adventdal.
We drive still some kilometers up to the end of the today's route, past at the mountains which I already in the approach
on Longyearbyen from above saw.
The cold beer on the terrace is the coronation daily and adjusts the fluid ullage pleasantly. „Frizzle like apple juice ". Back in the hut we can enjoy again again the Sauna and shower . A successful day, which is finalized in the
evening with Priittas “Homemade delicous reindeer menu”. on top
Day 8
Departure day of Ole, Max and Claus. At noon there is still another warm soup, before Priitta drives the three to l'byen to the airport or guesthouse.
For the morning France is with Priitta to guest. She came with its small daughter Leoni, it is still 10 days old, in the same flight as I from Tromsö. It is normally on the research ship Vagabond in the Inglefieldbukta.
Against 15:00 o'clock the new guests come. Horst, an old Friend of Priitta from Äkäskero and Matthias and Bärbel from Hamburg. The day was niggled, what I used somehow.
My back is substantially better.
In the evening we are for a long time outside, the dogs feed, after the Puppies see and making many beautiful pictures.
Day 9

After the cosy breakfast the travel goes now with the second group for me for the second time to the ice cave. This time without passenger in
the sled. Today I am better equipped with batterys, and I made many great pictures. At the glacier is a group that had their Camp dismantled, and already a few days on the way. On this day it is a comfortable walking travel with the dog sled. on top
Day 11
Shopping in L'byen.
With Horst I go into the gallery. It is a few meter to be gone, but is is more near as I
guessed. The weather is today super with -6°C and radiating sunshine. Again times I can make many great pictures. Longyearbyen has something alternation
which on motives. It is pleasantly bright and not windy the weather is steadily up to the evening and so we defrost the sledges for the next morning. The sun accelerates and it does well some to do. Air is here really clear. With Anton we build up a 4 men tent and use the wind-free time well. on top
Day 12
After the breakfast we pack the sledges. Since it is my last exit, I do not need to carry clothes forward, only sleeping bag and ISO mats had Marit and I on the carriage to carry forward.
it is the equipment for both Sweden, which take over this evening our carriages and dogs. There is today only 7 dogs, Vesla is hot and remains at home. Run in front Jagor and Femund, behind it Zodiak and Scott, in third row Siewa alone and as Wheeldogs Ori and Balto.
The travel goes the large glacier up on which we last Saturday in against set direction the deep snow through-plowing. A strength-robbing affair. In my Sledge a started dog fodder bag is that times 20 kg weighed. With an intermediate stop Anton takes the bag and a further equipment bag from the carriage to me and
gives it to Marit, their dogs are stronger. Above on the pass we do not drive, as I thought direction Svea, but direction the north by a long valley. A large part the distance ride along we over the Scooter motorway, I call now times in such a way, a partially very broad strip firmly driven snow and violent head wind. It is the coldest part the distance lasts to the whole route.
In this for me new area, I want to make actually still some pictures, but considering cold weather the batterys gives its spirit down.
Anton does find at the end to this stretches a valley where not wind blows. Here we build up the Camp with the three tents. Marit and I build the tent that Sweden, them will soon come. Before we are finished Marit of Anton asked to make the meal for us. I strutted the tent finished, covered the side flaps with snow and dug a hole in the tent entrance into the snow.
Not that more beers in itself can pour, that is not usual during the routes. Sitting on the edge, it is to be put on not so laboriously in the morning the thick clothes and shoes. Times one is to say that there is no comfort in the wilderness.
I did not really fagged myself, the others are for a long time at the main tent, than I go also there and disappear to to eat in the tent. We do not have time for a final coffee. Hardly finished with the meal we hear the two scooter. Sweden come. I go to the sledge, to get the thick jacket and the remainder of my personal equipment.
The two I have mean dog with names presented, told where the harnesses to be found and still briefly the hole under the tent entrance mentioned. A short farewell of my passengers and Anton, and already sit Marit and I in the back on the scooters and rush by the darkness of the night direction Bolterdalen.
The broad route leads approx. 30 - 40 km in the Adventdal. Also over 50 km/h over such a runway, is a torture as passenger. The handles are heated and my gloves with the arrival drying. With Priitta is full house. Marit is fetched, and already there Patrik is. Iisak cries and outside raves the wind with 40 km/h. I gave still the pictures of the last common route to Outi. Some more talk, wait to the children are supplied and then Igo fast under the shower. From Patrik I receive, that it in Svalbard at each tree a plug socket for battery chargers is. Yes, ok....? Still another cigarette with him and I stomp by the up-blown snow to rear house into my room. 3 ½ hours remain me still to packing and sleep. I can be waked around 2:45 o'clock, so that I have some more time, and me Patrik around 3:30 o'clock to the airport to drive can do. . on top

It going smothly so far everything, became awake I in the morning. The wind raved the night over and the way and stages to the main house course-blew. the takeoff to Tromsö going well. After the breakfast in the airplane I could do some more sleep.
